OUR STORY: Why Are We Doing This?

We believe that each of us creates our personal circumstances and therefore has the freedom to choose our lifestyle. For our family, we choose to live an extraordinary life.

Friends and acquaintances have started asking why we are “putting our life on hold” to travel for a year. They may even wonder if we are unhappy with our current situation.

From our perspective, we are NOT putting our life on hold, we are living our best life! Moving our life forward! We get to choose our life, and we choose extraordinary. Life will continue whether we stay or go. In taking this journey we envision new ways to grow, evolve, and experience the joys and challenges that are what life is all about.

Additionally, we are certainly not unhappy with our current situation. Even though we have quite a comfortable life now, we get excited about the prospect of a different kind of freedom we would have on the road: our own schedule and timetable, relaxed, with the focus on family and adventure and joy, rather than work and school and schedules.

Desiring change is not predicated merely on wanting to go from “bad” to “good.” We want to take “good” to a higher level.

We feel an Inner Calling leading us to this next adventure in life. In the words of Paulo Coelho, we are “creating our personal legend.” We hope to be an inspiration for others to listen to that inner calling, however it may manifest; to find the courage to pursue those dreams, even when facing fears of not knowing how to start or how it will work out.

Our trip is not about “escaping” anything. It is about acknowledging and respecting that inner voice, answering the call, and having faith that there is a purpose for this journey in our life. To us, it is worth going outside our comfort zone and growing ourselves to live that truth and communicate that message.

We always talk about family being most important, yet our lives get so busy, crowded, and distracted. The time with our young children goes by so fast. One main allure of taking this journey is to cultivate circumstances where our family experience and relationships come FIRST; to truly place family bonding as our #1 priority.  We know having an extraordinary adventure together will be unforgettable, full of joy and challenges, and strengthen our relationships for life.

We want to challenge ourselves and our children to grow and go outside our comfort zones, because most of our dreams and most treasured experiences are on the other side. We want to challenge the status quo, common assumptions, “shoulds,” and the “right way.” And we hope to inspire others to do the same.

And finally, we live in a great country and deeply appreciate our freedom and the work and sacrifices given to secure it. We want to intimately experience as well as showcase for others the beauty and goodness of the United States of America. We wish to expose ourselves and our children to new places and experience the history and culture of the US, brimming with excellent learning opportunities and exciting adventures.
